Introduction
The Chinese-German Institute combines the Chinese and German educational
systems and integrates the educational stages with basic theory,
applied science, technology and practice of project development.
It also has joint training of high-quality, versatile professionals
with good international communication ability, specialized skills
and adaptability. The present enrollment of students is 420 undergraduates
divided into 21 classes. It has a faculty of 25, with 1professor,
5 associate professors, 12 lecturers and 7 teaching assistants.
Among them, 16 are full-time teachers and 3 are foreign teachers.
The Chinese-German Institute focuses on the undergraduate cultivation
in the ¡°2+3¡± joint programme, with 900 periods of intensive German
language course for new entrants. Those who fulfill programme requirements
(mainly refer to the requirements of academic foundation courses
and language proficiency) will be selected to German partner universities
to complete their three-year academic study. After finishing their
thesis for both the German and Chinese universities, the graduates
will be granted both the graduate diploma of German university of
applied science and technology£¨Diplom FH£©and the Bachelor¡¯s Degree
of Zhejiang University of Science and Technology. The Chinese-German
Institute also recommends excellent graduates to German Universities
for postgraduate programmes.
From 2005, the Chinese-German Institute recruited students in 8
specialties including Mechanical Engineering, Information and Electronic
Engineering, Civil Engineering and Architecture, Biological Engineering,
Art and Design, Management, Applied Physics. In addition, the Chinese-German
Institute takes charge of the teaching administration of the ¡°2+3
joint programme¡±. The program focuses on German language proficiency,
and merges the teaching plan of German universities into ZUST¡¯s
first two-year study plan and conducts teaching. The Chinese-German
Institute is also in charge of Weilian Education and Technology
Exchange Service Centre and the German Communication and Information
Center.

German department
German language
This department is devoted to the training of German personnel who
has fluency in foreign language skills, abundant cultural knowledge,
good capability and quality. The graduates of the department will
be engaged in the work of translating, teaching, research and foreign
affairs. The German undergraduate academic system is four yeas,
including basic stage (first and second academic year) and advanced
stage (third and fourth academic year).

Theories and Practice, Economy German, Tourism English, Cross-Culture
Communication, English (second foreign language).
The German Communication and Information Center
The Center was set up in the School of Foreign Languages in March,
2005, and taken over by the Chinese-German Institute in November,
2006. It is a comprehensive academic research centre with multifunction
of teaching, research, document retrieval and cultural exchange.
The Center is equipped with advanced network facilities and abundant
data for academic research. It serves for staff, German language
students, and the ¡°2+3¡± joint programme students. In addition, its
establishment is also an important step toward the development of
education and research internationalization of our university.
Scientific research
Uniting with other related teaching and research branches by supporting
initiated projects, the Chinese-German Institute has developed the
studies of Germanic linguistics, German literature and culture as
well as Special topic studies. The Institute has completed many
research projects and invites experts and scholars from home and
abroad to work together on joint scientific research projects.
Teachers work hard to achieve school key scientific research projects
and write teaching material of Germanic linguistics, German literature
and other fields. They also organize compiling books about the situation,
culture and literature of Germany, and translate German literary
work and a variety of German materials.
